Deyuantang, the family temple for Zhang Family, locates in
Taxia Village, Meilin Town, Nanjing County, Fujian Province. It is one of the existing more completed ancient family temples in China.
Deyuantang was built in the late Ming Dynasty. The building sits north and faces to south. It is backing with green mountains and facing to the stream. In the front of the building, there is a half-moon-shaped pond. The internal space of the building is decorated magnificently by carved dragon and phoenix. There are 24 stone dragon flagpoles with the height of 10 meters standing outside the temple. These flagpoles are embossed with vivid dragons soaring through the clouds and driving the fog. These 24 stone flagpoles are the most in existence flagpole in number in China at present.
Taxia Villiage has branded how Hakka culture sticks to and inherits the Central Plains culture with the historical relics represented by Deyuan Tang and stone dragon flagpole. These historical relics provides the evidences for the research of the cultural evolution of the Central Plains and the history of the
Han nationality's southward migration. In 2006, Deyuan
Tang has been involved the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
