Jia Yi ( 贾谊 200 BC-168 BC), born in Luoyang (now in east Luoyang of Henan Province), was a famous political theorist and writer in the early Western Han Dynasty.
Jia Yi was very talented, and became an official at the age of 18. Later, because of the exclusion, he was banished to Changsha as the teacher of King Changsha. Three years later, he was recalled to Chang'an as the teacher of King Liang Huai. After King Liang Huai fell to his horse and died, Jia Yishen was apologized and died in depression while he only 33 years old.

Jia Yi's former residence is satll located on Taiping Street (the intersection of Jiefang West Road and Taiping Street) in Changsha City, Hunan Province. Jia Yi's former residence was built in the Emperor Wen period during the Western Han Dynasty, as the residence of Changsha King 's teacher, Jia Yi lived her from 177 BC to 174 BC.
Jia Yi's works are deeply influenced by
Zhuangzi and Liezi. The main literary achievements of his prose are political essays. His representative works include "On the Faults of
Qin".
Jia Yi was a great man of letters in the early stages of the Western Han Dynasty. His "On the Faults of
Qin" madeconclusions on the reason for the demise of the Qin, drew lessons fromthe peasant uprising of the late Qin and developed the idea of "relyingon the people," which became prevalent in the pre-Qin period. Jia Yi'sprose uses many metaphors and is written in figurative language.
