Wang Wei (王维701-761), born in Puzhou of Hedong (now in Yuncheng City of Shanxi province) , was a famous poet and painter in the Tang Dynasty. In the ninth year of Kaiyuan ( in 721) period of the Tang Dynasty, Wang Wei served as one of the officials in the dyansty after he passsed the dynasty court examination.
Like Meng Haoran who was also a famous poet in the Tang Dyansty, Wang Wei was also skilled at depicting natural scenery in five-character lines.
The extant works of Wang Wei (AD 701 -761) include more than 400 poems. His landscape and pastoral poemsmainly describe his reclusive life and the beautiful scenery in Zhongnanand Wangchuan. Wang Wei was keenly perceptive of nature and alwayspatterned his poems with a painter's craft. Commenting on Wang Wei'sworks, people often say "there is poetry in his Painting and painting inhis poetry."
