Wuxi Stele Forest, located in the Southwest of Qiyang County, is a state AAA scenic area. As the largest one in the open air in the southern area of the Yangtze River, it is a State Preservation Unit of Key Historical Relics.
In 2005, Wuxi Stele Forest was listed in the Top Ten Cultural Relics in Hunan Province. At present there are a total of 505 steles preserved, on which many famous celebrities' poems, paintings or proses are carved. The most famous one is Ode to Zhongxing from Tang Dynasty written by Yan Zhenqing, an outstanding calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty. The stele is unique for its bewitching calligraphy, remarkable writing and extraordinary stone. All in all, the stele forest is a storehouse of Chinese history, calligraphy, characters and literature, and well worth a visit.
