Yiyang City Yiyang City, as a famous "home of rice and fish" in the Dongting Lake area,is located in the north of Hunan Province. Yiyang is bordered by Hubei Province in the north. Within Hunan, it neighbors the choppy Dongting Lake in the northeast, in the neighborhood of Yueyang, Changde and Huaihua. Changsha, the capital city of Hunan, is 70 kilometers east of Yiyang City.

Yiyang History

As early as 5,000 years ago, there were villages scattered around this area. During the Warring States Period (476BC-221BC), it belonged to the territory of the Chu Kingdom. The Qin Court (221BC-206BC) put it under the administration of Changsha Shire. Later in the early Western Han Dynasty (206BC-24AD), Yiyang County, the first county in this area was established.

What to see in Yiyang?

Traveling from Changsha to Yiyang by the Changsha-Yiyang Expressway, tourists can go to Zishan Lake for golf, then visit the Bamboo Sea Scenic Area in Taohuajiang Scenic Area, where green and straight bamboo, variously called moso bamboo, tortoise-shell bamboo, or maozhu [Phyllostachysedulis],cover more than 700,000 hectares, forming a rolling sea of bamboo. You may ascend the bamboo tower to appreciate this sea of bamboo and refresh yourself. Then visit the ancient Anhua Tea-horse Road to sample black tea made from hundreds of years old prescriptions. Sightsee at Anhua Tuoxi Reservoir and sample the organically grown fish.

How to get there?

Yiyang Transport Yiyang has railways, highways and waterways radiating to all directions. Though Yiyang does not have an airport, it is only an hour's drive from Yiyang to Changsha Huanghua International Airport.

Railway
Yiyang Railway Station is located in Ziyang district. There are Changsha-Shimen and Luoyang-Zhanjiang railways meeting here, and regular trains going from Yiyang to Changsha, Zhangjiajie, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other cities in China.

Highway
The main passenger transport arteries in Yiyang are consisted of the Changsha-Guangzhou Expressway, G319, S308, S204 and G207 highways. Passenger buses leave the bus stations in Yiyang for cities in Hunan and other neighboring provinces regularly.

When to visit Yiyang?

Yiyang city enjoys a subtropical humid monsoon climate and the annual average temperature is a bit higher than many other regions around it. Comparatively, it has cooler summers and warmer winters. The rainfall is obviously abundant during July. Overcast and rainy weather together with cold air may occur in spring.During late March and early April, the peach blossoms are set off perfectly by the choppy lake water in the breeze. Luoxi Waterfall is in Shijingtou Township of Taojiang County. It is definitely an imposing sight to see the water rushing furiously down, and stirring up whirlpools when it reaches the bottom.It is the bedt time to visit Yiyang from March to November.
