There are 8 civil airports in Shandong: Jinan, Qingdao, Yantai, Weihai, Weifang, Linyi, Dongying, and Jining. Among these airports, Yaoqiang Airport in Jinan, Liuting Airport in Qingdao, and Laishan Airport in Yantai are international airports, and the airports in Dingying and Jining are united airlines. We have opened 176 airlines leading to 44 cities and regions, including 14 international airlines, which are destinated towards many countries and regions in the world such as Japan, Korean, Singapore, Thailand, Russia, Hong Kong and Macao, etc.
The new airport Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport which was started to build in 2015 and is still under construction will be the largest foreign international airport in Shandong and one of the eight major international airport hubs. The airports in Jinan, Qingdao, Yantai, Weihai and Linyi are international airports that provide international flights to Frankfurt, Seoul, Inchon, Tokyo, Bangkok, Los Angeles, Nagoya, etc.
A complete network of railway has also been formed in Shandong. Two major railways in China--- Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Kowloon railways, pass from north to south of the Shandong while two other railways, Jiaozhou-Jinan and Yunzhou-Shijiazhuang railways, pass from east to west in the province. The railway in operation has reached more than 2,700 km. The newly-built Beijing-Kowloon Railway has connected Shandong directly with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Rizhao, a coastal port city in southeastern Shandong at the easternmost end of Yunzhou-Shijiazhuang railway, has been approved by the state to be one of the bridgeheads of the New Eurasia Continental Bridge. This has brought Shandong's railways up to a significant strategic position. The railways of Shandong can reach those major domestic tourist cities, while in the midseason of the tourism, there will be special tourist lines leading to Hong Kong, Huangshan Mountain and Zhangjiajie.
Beijing-Kowloon Railway
It begins from Beijing in the north and ends at Kowloon, Hong Kong and passes by Linqing, Liaocheng, Yanggu, Liangshan, and Yingcheng. Hece, Dingtao and Caoxian within the territory of Shandong. It crisscrosses Handan-Jinan railway in Liaocheng, and meets Xinxiang-Yanshi railway in Hece.
Beijing-Shanghai Railway
This line begins from Beijing in the north and ends at Shanghai in the south. It passes by some cities and counties within Shandong province such as Dezhou, Pingyuan, Yucheng, Qihe, Jinan, Tai'an, Qufu, among which Jinan is the largest passenger railway station, all the passenger trains on the Beijing-Shanghai railway would pass by and pause at Jinan station. It takes only 5 hours for express trains to reach Beijing from Jinan, and 9 hours from Jinan to Shanghai.
Shandong has one of the densest and highest quality expressway networks among all Chinese provinces. In the 17 cities of Shandong province, except for Binzhou, all the cities have access to highways, with a highway mileage of 2,006 kilometers, the total length of Shandong's expressways ranks first in China.
There are several National Trunk Highway System (NTHS) expressways passing through or starting in Shandong. The Beijing-Shanghai Expressway crosses places inside the province like Jinan, Tai’an, Linyi,etc. Jiqing Expressway goes through Jinan, Zibo, Weifang and Qingdao city, connecting the four cities into one. The expressway, together with the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway, forms a "T"-like highway skeleton. Expressways like G2 Jinghu Expressway (Beijing–Shanghai), G15 Shenhai Expressway (Shenyang, Liaoning–Haikou, Hainan), etc. begin in Shandong province. And ones like G18 Rongwu Expressway (Rongcheng–Wuhai, Inner Mongolia), G20 Qingyin Expressway (Qingdao–Yinchuan, Ningxia), etc. Go through here. In addition to some natural expressways, there are many shorter regional expressways within Shandong as well. With lots of highways, every city in Shandong has its own long-distance bus stations which serve local Shandong residents as well as inter-province customers and visitors.
The Shandong Peninsula, with its bays and harbours, has many important ports, including Qingdao, Yantai, Weihai, Rizhao, Dongying and Longkou. Many of these ports have historical significance as well. As the sites of former foreign naval bases or historical battles, ferries link the cities on the north coast of the peninsula with the Liaodong Peninsula, further north across the sea. Located on Shandong Peninsula, waterway which is conductive to both freight transport as well as passenger traffic, plays a significant role in Shandong transportation. Yantai, Weihai and Penglai provides passenger ship to Dalian every day, among them, there are 4 high-speed passenger ships from Yantai to Dalian. Meanwhile, Qingdao, Weihai and Yantai offer international passenger ships to South Korea and Japan at regular intervals.
Qingdao subway: Qingdao Metro Line 3 started to operate in 2016, which marked Shandong welcomed subway era. Qingdao Metro Line 2 is under construction, and its eastern part had worked in 2017. The whole Qingdao Metro Line 2 is planned to finished in 2019. Qingdao Metro Line 1 will be the first domestic submarine metro, and its establishment began in 2014, and is expected to finish in 2020.
