Daotang River
Daotang River originates from the Chahan grassland at the west foot of the Riyue Mountain and pours into the
Qinghai Lake to the west.
It was said that Daotang River was come from the tears of Princess Wencheng, a daughter of Emperor Tang Taizong in the Tang Daynasty(618-907). She was sent to Tibet and marriage with Tubo ( King Tibet) . When she passed here , she missed her hometown very much with the sadness tears. She threw the sun and moon treasure into the
Riyue Mountain. And her tears were merged into the river running to Qinghai Lake.
Daotang River is the smallest branch of the Qinghai Lake water system. Meandering and winding, Daotang River is so crystal and clear that It looks as magical as a bright ribbon falling on the grassland.
More than 200 million years ago, the Qinghai Plateau was once a sea. Later, due to strong crustal movement, the plateau gradually uplifted. At first, the water of Qinghai Lake drained east from Riyue Mountain, but Riyue Mountain became higher and higher. Qinghai Lake became a completely blocked lake, and the river that had originally leaked east had to turn in the direction Westward.
Daotang River Scenic Spot is located in Daotanghe Town. It is a small area circled by
Tibetans beside Daotang River. After entering, visitors can wear
Tibetan clothes and take photos with yak.
