Situated in the middle of the Shanxi-Shaanxi Gorge of the Yellow River, Qikou Ancient Town neighbours Mengmen Ancient in the south. Here, the Yellow River comes from the north, and the Qiushui River flows from the east. Wohu Mountain stands in the north of the town. However, the town is surrounded by rivers and mountain to show a magnificent picture for people.
With over 300 years history, Qikou Ancient Town was a famous old town for trade in northern China. Here you can walk freely to the local courtyards built on both sides of the streets in the town. Helong Temple, Xiwan Village, and Lijiashan Village are worth visiting, which are around Qikou Ancient Town.
Black Dragon is supposed to protect this town, and the Black Dragon Temple is still proudly standing on the top of the cliff above the river. Local people are still bringing some fruit or cheap alcohol from a local store to offer as a sacrifice to the local gods. The halls, still in good condition, make you feel small when you are standing in front of them. From the top of the temple walls, where two big bronze bells are standing, you can see a never-ending view of Shanxi country.
The houses of Lijiashan Village have five floors of caves from bottom to top. The Xiwan Village's dwelling is very well built. You can go to these two places when you visit Qikou. You can also eat the hand-rolled noodles in Qikou, which is very delicious.
