Shahukou ( Kill Tiger Pass), aslo so called Xikou (Western Pass), is located at the junction of Shanxi and Inner
Mongolian in Youyu County of Shanxi Province. It is close the Great Wall to the north and the Cangtou River to the west. The terrain of Huhukou is dangerous. It is a natural gateway formed by a narrow and long corridor with 3300 meters located between the two mountains in the east and west.
The Great Wall at Shahukou was once a historical gateway in central China. In order to resist the southward invasion of
Mongolian Valais, In the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644), the troops sent from central China once fight for many times here to Mongolian Valais , hence the name "Shahukou".
Shahukou was also an important tax site in ancient times. During the Ming and
Qing Dynasties, Shahukou became the gateway between Shanxi and Mongol for Shanxi merchants, so it was also praised as the birthplace of Shanxi merchants.
Come here, you can see the majestic ancient Great Wall, the complete preserved "Kill Tiger Fort", the old beacon towers, the desolate and quaint ancient battlefield, the rare ancient roads, and the exquisite craftsman's ancient music building, etc.
