Being regarded as the cultural symbol of Shaanxi
Qinqiang Opera is a thousand-year-old operatic genre. It got developed in the
Qin Dynasty, enhanced in the
Han Dynasty, flourished in the
Tang Dynasty, completed in the
Yuan Dynasty, mature in the
Ming Dynasty, and widely spread in the
Qing Dynasty.
With the title of “The Earliest Chinese Opera”, it had significant impacts on the origin and development of great operas such as Peking Opera. It is a popular opera in Shaanxi, Gansu,
Qinghai, Ningxia, Xinjiang, etc. Qinqiang Opera exhibits bold, rough and unconstrained artistic characteristics.
Qinqiang Opera, as approved by the State Council, was included in the list of “The First National Intangible Cultural Heritage” in 2006.
