Qingxiu Mountain, also called the Green Mountain, is honored as the 'green lung' of Nanning City. With majestic hills and peaks, green trees and beautiful scenes, it is among the eight famous scenes inNanning. Records indicate that temples and pavilions were built on the mountain during the Song and Ming dynasties including: Baiyun temple, Changshou temple, Gudu temple, Qingshan Mountain, Dongquan pavilion, Dongxu pavilion and Longxiang pagoda. However, all have since been destroyed by fire and war. Now, composed of 18 mountains and hills, like Qingshan Hill and Phoenix Hill, the Qingxiu Mountain Scenic Spot has an area of 4.07sq.km, 14667sq.m comprised of water and 25000sq.m of green land; its peak has an altitude of 289 meters. Even though they may not be the highest or the deepest, the beautiful mountains and clear waters of Qingxiu have earned fame.

What to see ?

This is a key location in Nanning for development and exploration, so old relics like the Dong Spring, carvings on the Jieqing cliff, the Shixiang Shrine have been preserved and repaired, and new spots like the Tropical Rain Forest Park, the Palm Park and the Thai Park have been constructed. The latter one was designed by Thai architects, as a project of cultural communication between Nanning city and Kongjing city in Thailand. Since the garden is of Thailand’s style, visitors can experience for themselves the exotic flavor here. Also, the newly built gate is unique and magnificent, which attributes a lot to the scenic spot.

Longxiang Pagoda

On the top of the mountain stands the Longxiang pagoda or Qingshan pagoda which is the symbol of the Qingxiu Mountain. It was first constructed during the Wanli period of Ming dynasty; it originally had 9 stories of which 2 were later destroyed by lightening During World War II it was destroyed by the Chinese government because it was a believed target of Japanese fighter planes. It wasn’t rebuilt until the mid 1980’s; the original Ming dynasty architecture was preserved characterized by grey bricks and eight square eaves. The diameter of its base is 12 meters；it has 9 stories up to 60 meters in height.  There are 207 steps making Longxiang the biggest and highest pagoda in Guangxi. From the pagoda, visitors can overlook the whole city at a distance of about 10,000 meters.

Tianchi and Yaochi

Tianchi and Yaochi are two big manmade lakes surrounded by green trees located on the mountainside.  The water of Tianchi sparkles in the sunlight mirroring the green pines, blue sky and white clouds. The Yiqi pavilion and Panque pavilion built on the small island in Tianchi are the best places for tourists to relax. Tianchi and Yaochi, together with the vast array of green trees deem the Qingxiu Mountain worthy of the title green lung of Nanning city.

The best time to visit there: Year round. In summer when the grass is green and the flowers are in full blossom, visitors can go boating; in November and December, they can enjoy themselves at the annual Guangxi Food Festival; in February and March, they can view the blossoming peach flowers on the mountain.
