History of Yiwu
In the year 222 BC, the Emperor Ying Zheng of the Qin Dynasty (221BC-206 BC) set up a county here. Yiwu is also the hometown of a number of historic people from ancient times. For example, Luo Binwang - one of the great patriotic poets in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Zong Ze - the patriotic general of Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), Zhu Danxi - one of the four famous doctors of the Jin and Yuan dynasties as well as Chen Wangdao, Feng Xuefeng and Wu Han, all of whom have made their contributions to the modern China. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, Yiwu City is located in the central Zhejiang Province.Yiwu is the world's largest commodity distribution center, being awarded as the world's No. 1 market by the world's leading authorities such as the United Nations and the World Bank. Yiwu International Trade City is China's first AAAA-level shopping tourist area authorized by China National Tourism Administration.
How to get there?
Yiwu, a city named after a bird, is located in the middle of Zhejiang Province, 108km from Hangzhou to the north. Yiwu has convenient transportation to Shanghai, Hangzhou and the other cities of Zhejiang Province. Currently, it is possible for visitors to get there by its almost completed traffic network.
You can access the city from Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport by frequent shuttle buses, or Yiwu Airport in the city also operates some hot air routes from/to Beijing, Guangzhou, Xi'an and Chengdu. Yiwu welcomes visitors from all over the world. If you would like to explore the city on your own, convenient buses will take you to any corner of the city.
When to visit Yiwu?
Influenced by the subtropical monsoon climate, Yiwu has four distinctive seasons in a year with plenty of sunshine and rainfall. The mild climate brings comfortable weather temperatures for the city that is about 17.1C (about 63F) on average. Except the hot July and a little coldness in January, you can visit here at any time, especially in the pleasant autumn of September and October. Besides the balmy climate, lots of visitors swarm into the city every October to visit the China Yiwu International Commodities Fair which has been successfully held in there 11 times to date.
