With a total area of 136 square kilometers, it is a national 5A scenic spot and a world natural heritage. The mountain of Guifeng Mountain Scenic Area is a typical Danxia landform. However, due to the natural weathering, this mountain has a lot of rock shaped like a turtle, so Guifeng (Turtle Peak) is also named.
Guifeng Mountain is one of the famous Buddhist mountains in Jiangxi Province. Nanyan Temple was bulit in the Jin Dynasty. The construction of the temple takes good advantage of the natural cave with a single tile or column. Over 40 magnificent stone niches were preserved in the temple which are of largest scale in China of its kind. So it is famed as China’s 1st Buddhism cave and South China Dunhuan. The sleeping Buddha of Guifeng is 416 meters long and 68 meters high of its shoulder. It’s the biggest one in the world of its kind, showing a vivid picture of Buddha’s nirvana. That’s how Guifeng is famous in and outside China for its mountain chain marvel, excellent landscape, imposing Buddha niches and loyal soul.
To tour Guifeng Scenic Area, you must first take a boat trip to Qingshui Lake. On the cruise boat, you can see the entire Guifeng Scenic Area. When the weather is good, the sun shines on the peaks, making the mountains red Gorgeous and extremely charming.
After the boat docked, you walk along a concrete road in the forest, and soon reach the foot of Camel Peak. Climbed up the ridge, if you look back up to the open stone slope, you can see the entire Qingshui Lake and the distant Danxia cliff in the distance.
At the fork in the middle of the road, you can go straight to the top of Camel Peak, or you can go down to Bajie Peak. The Camel Peak is an almost vertical iron ladder on three stone walls, which needs to go down the original road. Climbing up to the third stone wall, you look down and feel like your body is hanging in the air.
Going towards the direction of Bajie Peak, you can see the Eighteen Lohan Peak at the bottom of the valley, and its shape is weird and strange. Bajie Peak is actually just a weird stone. The side of the stone is raised like a pig's nose. After a section of the upward road, you can see a trail leads to the cliff on the left. There is a conspicuous boulder called " Pillar in South Heaven". It is tens of meters high, with two wide ends in the middle and a narrow upside down on the cliff side. It is also a wonderful sight. There is a small stone in front of it, which looks like an alien's head. It's named "A visitor from a foreign country."
After leaving the site of Pillar in South Heaven and heading west for a while, you will encounter a fork in the road, head west to the General Building, and turn right to Sheshen Cliff. Go right through a dense forest to a ridge of mountains. On the right, you can see Qingshui Lake and Camel Peak. On the left, you can see Hanpo Peak and Laofeng Peak. The views of the lake and mountains echo each other and have a unique flavor.
Turning back to the fork and going west, you will see the loyalty stone, the eagle play chick, the general building, the front line and other attractions, and then to the natural triassic stone. This is three jumbo stones standing side by side, looking up in the middle, the sky is divided into three sections, quite strange. On the way down the mountain, the shape of the old man's peak continued to change. On the flat ground, he looked like an ancient old man who took medicine. When he climbed to the middle of the mountain, he looked like a three-legged incense burner. From another angle, he looked like an ancient warrior wearing a helmet. It was Danxia landform.
Down to the Gui Garden, there is a giant camphor tree standing tall, which is also a view of Guifeng Mountain. A short walk along the road is the Turtle Culture Museum. It contains the introduction and pictures of Guifeng Mountain and the turtle culture, and there are several live turtles in a showroom. A showroom on the second floor is a sex culture museum, and minors are prohibited from entering. Walked out of the museum to the inner lake, you can took a tour bus to the outer lake, and almost returned to the scenic entrance.
Guifeng Scenic Area here has a good lakeside scenery. The lake is set against the mountains, bridges and caves. It is not too late to walk around the lake and leave.
