Zhengzhou Confucian Temple was initially built in Eastern Han Dynasty. It is the second Confucian temple to the Confucian Temple in Qufu, Shangdong province. Confucian temple is devoted to the memory of Confucius and the other sages and philosophers of Confucianism.
For thousands of years, Confucian Temple was destroyed and reconstructed for many times. In May, 1896, the temple was suffered from fire. In spite of the reconstruction, the whole scope is hardly to recover. In 1963, the part built in Qing Dynasty era was declared to be a protected site by the government of Henan Province. During 2004-2006, Zhengzhou government allocated RMB30,000,000 to rebuilt 18 temple pavilion as well as 80 halls. A weight of 1278 kg bell was hang in front of the Dacheng Hall to celebrate the 2557th birthday of Confucius.
