Shangbao
Miao Village is a tourism destination with profound folk culture. Located in Huangsangping
Miao Ethnic Township of Suining County,
Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, the village is the capital site of
Shangbao Ancient Kindom of Miao Nationality. The village is well known today as an idyllic ancient village surrounded by hills and waters. On March 26, 2012, it took a new face after restoration.
History of Shangbao Village
Shangbao Ancient Kingdom generally includes its entire jurisdiction, while refers to Shangbao ancient village in a narrow sense. From 1439 to 1464 AD (the first year of Zhengtong's reign to Tianshun's Reign of the
Ming Dynasty), Li Tianbao, led a large-scale uprising and built Miao's Kingdom in Shangbao. This is the first Kindom of Miao People in the long history of
China. You can still see the relics of the palace and flagpole stone in Shangbao village, which holds great historical and cultural value, owing to its significant role in Miao people's history.
