Lhasa Transportation
Plan your Tibet Lhasa Tour? Lhasa Transportation has been developed in recent years.Currently there are three options to reach this mysterious high land, by plane, by road and by train.
By Air
Taking plane is comfortable and time saving , but offers little time for you to acclimatize to the altitude; this may cause sickness.
Lhasa Gonggar Airport is located in Gonggar County, approximately 65 kilometers southwest of the urban area of Lhasa. Round-trip between Chengdu and Lhasa has the largest number of flights, passengers are advised to go to Lhasa from Chengdu transit.
Lhasa Gonggar Airport has 40 more flights to/from major domestic cities including Beijing, Chamdo, Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Dazhou, Diqing, Fuzhou, Golmud, Guangzhou, Guiyang, Hangzhou, Kangding, Kunming, Lanzhou etc.
From Airport to Downtown
It takes about an hour from the airport to the downtown by airport bus and the ticket price is 25 yuan. The bus set out every hour from 6:30am to 19:30pm.
It takes about 40 minutes from the airport to downtown by taxi and it costs about 150 yuan.
By Train
Taking the train, is a fabulous new option, giving the opportunity to see hitherto unseen mountain scenery. With the operation of Tibet Railway from July 1st, 2006, more and more visitors have swarmed into the land via train.
Lhasa Railway Station has only one railway, also known as legendary Tin Road - Qinghai - Tibet Railway. It stops along the way Golmud, Xining, Lanzhou, Xi'an, Zhengzhou and other sites. The railway can reach Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shanghai,Chongqing,Wuhan,Changsha and other places. Lhasa railway station is located in the southwest of Lhasa, about 8 km from the city center.

By Bus
Taking the bus along one of five highways that have been opened-up for visitors' use. This will take longer but will enable you to see the amazing scenery en route. Furthermore, taking extra time allows for a more gradual acclimatization to the altitude.
Lhasa has four relatively large passenger station, the western suburbs Terminal, the eastern suburbs Terminal, the northern suburb Terminal and Liuwu Terminal. At present, if you want to go to Lhasa by bus, you’d better start from Golmud in Qinghai and Yecheng in Xinjiang or you‘ll have to take a transit.
Getting Around Lhasa
Bus : There are 25 bus line in Lhasa while the No.24 and No.25, are the same route with different direction. The No.1 and No.14 bus can arrive at the railway station. All the ticket price in Lhasa is 1 yuan.
Taxi: The minimum fare of a taxi is 10 yuan for the first three kilometers. The unit fare is 2 yuan after exceed 3 kilometers.
Bicycle: There are many bicycles in Lhasa for rent and it costs from 15 to 20 yuan while some mountain bikes with famous brand costs 50 yuan per day.
Human Hill Wheeler: Human Hill Wheeler is characteristic of Lhasa, each vehicle can take two people.
