From then until about August, the temperature can get as high as 35 ºC while humidity can occasionally reach 98 or 99 per cent. "Hot and sticky" is a phrase that describes Hong Kong at that time of year. August to September are times when typhoons may occur. Normally, Hong Kong gets one or two of these each year which are bad enough to keep people indoors.
By October and November, the temperature, rainfall and humidity have fallen to such levels that it can be an absolute joy to spend a day outdoors. Most locals and visitors agree this is the best time of year to be in Hong Kong, with bright sunshine, gentle breezes and a relatively dry atmosphere.
Lightweight clothing during warmer months, with warmer clothes for spring and autumn evenings. It should be noted that even during the hottest weather, a jacket or pullover will be required for the sometimes strong air conditioning in shops or offices. Warm medium weights are best during winter. Waterproofing clothes is advisable during summer rains.
