Huang Yongyu


Huang Yongyu(1924-  ), was born on July 9, 1924 in Changde City, and his ancestral home was Fenghuang County in Hunan Province.  As one of the top famous painter artists in China, Mr. Huang Yongyu serves as a Professor of  China's Central Academy of Fine Arts,  as well as vice chairman of China Artists Association.

Due to his poverty, Huang Yongyu went out to earn a living when he was 12 years old, and lived in small ceramic workshops in the mountainous areas of Anhui and Fujian as child labor. Later, he moved to Shanghai, Taiwan and Hong Kong to make a living. He published works at the age of 14. For a while after that, he focused on printmaking, and his unique printmaking works are well-known both at home and abroad. At the age of 16, he began to make a living by painting and woodcutting art.

Zhang Meixi, born in Xinhui County of Guangdong in 1927, is Mr. Huang Yongyu's wife.  She met Huang Yongyu in Jiangxi and got married with him in 1942.  The couple came to Hong Kong in 1948.

Asked by Mr Shen Congwen who is Huang's uncle,  they moved to Beijing in 1953. Mr Huang served as a teacher at the printmaking department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. His wife began writing children's literature. She is the author of "In the Forest", "Good Hunter" and "Green Memories".

In the late 1970s, she began to create ink and oil painting works, and sketched and painted at home and abroad. In December 1997, her personal art exhibition was held at the Exhibition Hall of the Hong Kong City Hall.

Huang Yongyu taught himself painting, and he was praised as a generation of "ghost talents" when he was yong.  in 1956, his painting works of  "Yongyong Yu Woodcut Collection" was published, and the representative works of  "Spring Tide", "Owl",  and "Ashima"  made a splash in the Chinese painting world at that time.

In 1978, the British "The Times" used six sections to make a special report on Huang Yongyu's paintings. Since 1980's, He has held art exhibitions in Australia, Germany, Italy,and  China's Hong Kong. His art achievements have won the Italian Commander-in-Chief Award.

Renowned at home and abroad, Huang Yongyu was hired as the director of the Printmaking Academy of China National Academy of Paintin on August 31, 2010.

Since the outbreak of a new type of coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan, the changing epidemic has affected the hearts of every Chinese person. In this "war", a large number of sorrowful hero stories have emerged, such as dare to be a scientific research expert, a desperate medical staff and ordinary people who donate a lot of medical supplies, etc. 

Mr. Huang Yongyu, 96 years old, painted these heroes with a paintbrush out of his true feelings. "The Chinese Live Alive" , painted by Huang Yongyu, inspired the people across the country to win this war between humans and viruses  so as to inspire everyone. Those who were concerned about the epidemic were diligently performing their duties, doing their job well, and winning the war as soon as possible! 

Huang Yongyu is also an elegant writer and poet. He has published a number of works such as Miscellaneous Cans, Miscellaneous Mustard Houses, Landscapes under the Sun, and the novel of The Wandering Man in the Wuyou River.
