Chaoyang Palace
Chaoyang Palace is located at Wenxing Street in Fenghuang Ancient Town. Formerly known as the Chen Family Ancestral Hall, it was built by the local patriots Mr.Chen Bing and Mr. Chen Kaifan in 1915. And it was expanded in 1923.
Covering an area of over 500 square meters, the Chaoyang Palace consists of a gate, a stage, a main hall, the left and right chambers. This house is the Southern China's wooden structure courtyard with a strong Western Hunan ethnic architectural style.
The gate of Chaoyang Palace is a 8-meter-high building made of fuchsia brick wall. There are 12 embossed sculptures of flowers and birds on the left and right walls, which are especially delicate.
Entering the gate and passing under the stage, you can see a spacious courtyard which is all paved very orderly with the square bluestone slabs.
The main hall is a three-story building with a bucket structure. The base of the building is made of finely carved red sandstones, which is 1.2 meters higher than the patio inside the courtyard.
In front of the main hall, there are 9 steps of purple red sandstone fan-shaped stone steps. On the inner eaves of the main hall, a circular moon arch door is opened, and an ice pattern lattice is carved around the arch door.
The second rooms on both sides of the main hall are decorated with lattice wooden windows, which is unique shape and fine craftsmanship. There is a wooden fenced corridor in front of the second rooms, which was once a place where the VIP guests came to watch performance. The building is made of the red pillars and blue tiles, and it looks like exquisite and gorgeous.
There are private box-room buildings on the left and right of the main hall, all of which have 3 rooms with 2 floors. But the lower floor is vacant for the audience to avoid the rain. The upper floor is the carved wooden fence box-room, which is convenient for guests to watch performance.
Backed by the gate archway, the stage is opposite the main hall. The top of the stage is in the shape of a hall, which roof is decorated with a wishful arch with 15 meters high . On the middle of the stage, it is the title " 观古鉴今" (viewing the ancient history and think about today ). Dragons and phoenixes are carved on the four pillars of the stage, There is a couplet hanging.
