Hengshui Lake, also called Qianqing Low-lying Land, connects two cities, the emerging transport hub Hengshui City and Jizhou City in the south. As an important and typical wetland in North China, it has the following titles like Natural Reserve, National Water Conservancy Scenic Area, National Pilot Zone of Eco-tourism, AAAA level Scenic Area, Wetland of Jingjinji, Lake in the south of Beijing.

As a nature reserve, the Hengshui Lake is an inland freshwater wetland on North China Plain and a complete ecosystem that keeps water, marsh, mud flat, meadow and forest. The reserved area covers an land of 187.87 square kilometers with 75 square-kilometer lake that’s 3 to 4 meters deep on average and holds almost 200 million cubic meters of water.

There are 310 kinds of birds on the lake among which 7 are first level protected birds and 48 are second level. Experts from home and abroad identified 308 top endangered species here, and the aythya baeri, which is in the largest number ever in the world. And the lake has become a major breeding place and a valuable stop for their migration.

Jizhou ancient town, on the south bank of Hengshui Lake, was built in the year 201 BC and it was the first state among the nine states in ancient China. The sites like Han Dynasty Wall, Ming Dynasty Wall, Han tombs, inscribed stones, Li Sanniang millstone and other legends reproduce the natural, historic and cultural views of the Hengshui Lake, so people cannot help but speak highly of it.
