Guangdong Lingnan Gardens


Guangdong Lingnan Gardens Architecture, one of the three major types of traditional Chinese garden, refers to the garden in the south area of Five Range Mountain. And it is famous for the Guangfu Garden.

Lingnan Gardens Architecture Features

Lingnan Gardens Architecture have three distinctive features: 
1.  It looks like transparent and simple. 
2.  It is used a lot of folk crafts such as wood carving, brick carving, ceramics, gray plastic and so on, so that the doors and windows are decorated very beautifully and gorgeously. 
3. It has the cultural characteristics of Chinese and Western compatibility. For example, it has Roman-style arched doors and windows and Baroque columns, pool made of stone, and cast iron flower standing outside the hall, which the layout and some components are influenced by Western architectural culture.
 
In the early 18th and 19th centuries during the Qing Dynasty(1645-1911), the merchants in Haizhu and Xiguan areas of ​​Guangzhou Province built a lot of large and magnificent private gardens,such as Panjia Garden, Wujia Garden, and  Haishan Xianguan Garden. These gardens, known as the "Business Gardens", were not only the pinnacle of Lingnan gardens, but also triggered the grandeur of European countries imitating "Chinese style" gardens during the Qing Dynasty (1645-1911).

The four existing Lingnan gardens in the Qing Dynasty are Qinghui Garden, Yuyin Mountain House Garden, Liang Garden and Ke Garden. Other famous gardens include Baomo Garden, Shunde He Garden and Yuehui Garden.
